What type of curl are you?

We want to guide you in caring for your curls; the best way to do this is to identify your curl type. Most curls can be categorized into four curl types: corkscrew, botticelli, wavy and s'wavy.

Corkscrew Curls

Corkscrew Curls

Corkscrew curls are curls that contract tightly if cut too short and have lots of small spirals. Corkscrew Curls have a high frizz factor. Hair appears thickly textured when you look at it all together, but is actually baby-fine and delicate when you look at a single strand.

Hair soaks up as much conditioner as you feed it and has angles and snarls under the top layer of hair at the nape of the neck. Hair has a spring factor of 9 to 12 inches (natural curl-to-curl pulled to its full length).

Botticelli Curls

Botticelli Curls

Botticelli curls vary in size and shape. They tend to be looser, appear in the shape of soft S's, combined with those that are tight. Curls have a ropier appearance and seem to wilt if they get too long. Botticelli curls are looser during some seasons and tighter during others. Hair has a spring factor of 5 to 8 inches (natural curl-to-curl pulled to its full length).

Wavy Curls

Wavy Curls

You've always believed your hair was straight, and you even had straight hair when very young. It might have turned wavy after puberty. Your hair occasionally develops a natural wave after a shower. You might have a slight halo of frizz and frizz on the ends during humid days. Wavy hair has a tendency to look un-maintained and flat on the crown. It appears straight in the winter, is dry on the ends and has a spring factor of 2 to 4 inches (natural curl-to-curl pulled to its full length).

S'wavy Curls

Wavy Curls

S'wavy hair may appear straight in the winter with no effort. You may have to work to create waves. Your hair has a low to no frizz factor with natural shine. Your hair has a slight bend at the ends depending on the length and looks better when it's layered. Your S'wavy hair has a spring factor of 1 to 2 inches (natural curl-to-curl pulled to it's full length).
